If you're new to the Baton Rouge area, our real estate agents can help you find all the best things to see and do in the area. For instance, the Greater Baton Rouge State Fair is a tremendously fun event for both individuals and families, and locals look forward to it.
Last year, the fair was, unfortunately, canceled due to COVID. This year, however, it's back, running Thursday, October 28th through Sunday, November 7th. Anytime you go will be fun, but certain shows and attractions only run on certain days. Here's some of what you can expect, so you can plan your trip to the fair.
Pricing
The first thing to know is how much a trip to the fair will cost you. Due to the nature of many of the rides at the fair, admission is based on height. Anyone under 48 inches gets in free. For fairgoers 48 inches and above, it's $5 Monday through Thursday, or $10 Friday through Sunday. Parking is free.
Once inside, however, in order to go on the rides, you'll need ride coupons, which are sold separately from admission tickets. Ride coupons are $1 each, but some rides may require multiple coupons to get on. Or, you can purchase a wristband for $25, which allows you unlimited rides on any attraction at the fair. Being that the fair has over 40 rides for all different age groups if thrills are your thing, this is probably the best option.
All stage shows, concerts, and other non-ride attractions at the fair are included in the price of admission.
Shows
Many of the shows and attractions will be at the fair every day. Magician Tim Spinosa performs hand magic with a variety of everyday items, though his skills at illusion and charisma in front of an audience ensure that no two shows are alike. Meanwhile, Washboard Willy performs unique rhythm and music, with the help of his audience. There's also a petting zoo, piglet racing, and more.
There are also a few concerts you'll have to plan ahead for. Bands like Careless Whisper, Old Sole Band, Justin McCain Project and Groupon Sensacion will be playing on the first weekend. Blue Crab Redemption, Rusty Yates Band, and others will be performing on different days throughout the week.
Food
One of the biggest draws at any fair is the food! The GBRSF has a variety of food stands and food trucks to choose from. Corky Westmoreland has rolled ice cream and slushies in two locations around the fair, while Jeremy Westmoreland has funnel cakes, nachos, corn dogs, and more, in three locations. And Roger Westmoreland has all the decadent fair food you've come to love and expect, from deep-fried Snickers, Twinkies, and pecan pie to turkey legs, pork chops on a stick, and more.
If you want to check out the food trucks, Smokin' Like Ya Like It has barbecue sandwiches, wraps, tamales, and their brand new Smokin' Spaghetti. Allo Girls Catering has golden chicken, hurricane fries, and banana pudding. And Jambalaya by Shake has gumbo, boudin balls, etouffee, and more!
And that's just a taste of the different food items the fair has to offer this year.
Want to live right near all the fair festivities? There are plenty of Baton Rouge homes for sale right near the fair. Contact us to help you get settled into the perfect home for you.

If you're a heavy reader, chances are you have a relatively large book collection sitting at home collecting dust. Some of our real estate agents really dislike parting with good books after they've finished reading them. Instead of storing them in the attic, why not turn your book collection into a home library?
Showing off your book collection is such a great way to add a touch of elegance to any room of your house. In fact, there are so many creative ways to put your books on display that you may never want to get rid of another book again! Below are some ideas on how to turn your collection into a stylish display.
Put Them in the Fireplace
If you have a non-working fireplace that isn't being used for any other purpose, use it for book storage! Sorting your books into piles and stashing them inside your fireplace is a great way to create a chic, sophisticated Brooklyn vibe.
Fill-up a Dead Corner
If you just can't figure out what to do with an empty corner, use it to show off your books. Add floating shelves or a sturdy bookcase to construct the ultimate corner library. If the room is large enough, you could even add a chair and some lighting to create a cozy reading nook.
Build a Coffee Table
Pick your sturdiest books, compile them into four even piles, and then find a strong flat surface to create the ultimate literary DIY coffee table. Not only is this a practical way to store your books, but it can also serve as a great conversation piece. Just be sure to include interesting titles.
Group By Color or Size
If you have a truly large collection, there are many ways you can creatively show them off on a shelf. Forget alphabetizing -- instead, try creating interesting patterns with color or height. You can also alternative vertical groups with horizontal stacks. Your goal is to create a tidy, visually appealing bookshelf instead of an old stuffy look.
Try Floating Cabinets
We especially like this idea for a home office. Try adding some floating wall cabinets that are large enough to store a decent number of books. Alternate horizontal groups and vertical stacks, and be sure to break them up with some decorative elements.
